First, there are a few minor changes that will no doubt make for more freedom in WWE 2K20 when creating shows, starting with the number of rivalries available for each show changing from 3 to 4. The number of matches available on an average show has been boosted from 7 to 9 as well, while Pay-Per-View cards can now hold up to a whopping 14 matches.

On the more substantial side, 2K has also reshot 50 of universe mode’s most common cutscenes with female motion capture, meaning that players using a female wrestler will no longer have to settle with the male animations that existed prior. On top of this, WWE 2K20 will also feature 25 brand new cutscenes. The interface is also getting an upgrade, allowing for less experienced universe mode players to access its features with greater ease. 2K does promise, however, that all the deeper options universe mode fans are accustomed to will still be accessible despite the shift.
Match tables have also seen an update, with players now able to add custom matches as well as the newly added mixed match challenge bouts. They have also been updated so that Pay-Per-View specific matches will always main event their retrospective card, 2K using The Royal Rumble match as an example. This was one of the major bugs in WWE 2K19’s universe mode, with championship bouts often trumping major Pay-Per-View specific matches. Finally, it’s apparently easier than ever to change a normal match into a title match, 2K citing that it has added a setting to streamline the process.
To the disappointment of some, it seems WWE 2K20’s new universe mode will stay largely the same besides a few small tweaks and refinements. The newest entry in the long-running WWE series has been amassing some fan backlash recently, the lack of in-game marketing materials used to publicize the upcoming title making fans worry that it will be a carbon copy of last year’s entry. Players won’t have to wait long to find out if they’re right with the game releasing in just under a month’s time.
WWE 2K20 launches on October 22 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
