For those of you unfamiliar with the Worms franchise, it may be a good idea to check out the trailer, featured below on this page. At a fundamental level, you are a worm on a 2D plane, and the aim of the game is to annihilate all the other worms on the screen. Inevitably, what follows is a frantic, funny and (quite often) incredibly tactical experience.
Available solely through Steam, Worms Reloaded is moving away from the more recent console 3D experiences and is (in the words of the developer) taking gamers back to the “good old days” of worm blasting fun.
Here’s what Martin Brown, Business Development Director at Team17, had to say about the upcoming title:

Worms Reloaded also has a whole host of new features to add to its madcap repertoire, so we decided to just give you the highlights:
Over 60 single-player missions to get your teeth stuck into. Up to 4-player online and local multiplayer action, with full steamworks integration. Huge amount of customisation – everything from your worm’s skin color to his hat to his locale, can all be edited by you. New fully featured landscape editor (pictured below) so that you can create and share your own levels. New weapons and old favorites are back in the fray. HD Visuals and PC Specific controls so that your PC experience is the right experience.

Personally, I’m a little unsure. Don’t get me wrong – everything about the game sounds fantastic, but in my opinion, it’s a little expensive at £18. Of course, that has no bearing on how good a game is, but it does factor into whether or not I’ll be buying it day one! Having been a long-term fan of the Worms series however, I think I may be tempted into getting this pretty quickly. Especially due to the fact that it has full steamworks integration – as crazy as it may sound, I don’t buy PC games unless they’re on Steam. Everything else is too much of a hassle, and Steam just… works.
In other words… Yes, I’m pretty excited by the news of a Worms Reloaded release date, and trailer is pretty nifty too. You can pre-order Worms Reloaded now on the Steam page now, and get a handy 10% off your bill. You can also find more information at the official Team17 website.
